Participants watch their own first-person perspective tape with the researcher and comment in great detail on the why and how of their actions. This is called the “Replay Interview”. The RIW uses topic guide and procedures in many aspects similar to classic confrontation interview protocols but with some important differences coming from the first-person perspective and the induced capacity to access episodic memory and increased detail.
This cognitive analysis is extremely detailed because, as participants are re-immersed in their own perception-action loop, from their own perspective, provided with the context, with kinetic cues and attentional focus, in the actual flow of successive actions recorded with high quality, the participants access multimodal memory and are able to describe their mental states with amazing accuracy.
This replay interview is also recorded.
